About us
Advocacy of Women in Fisheries and Aquaculture Network (AWFISHNET) – Malawi Chapter
Overview
AWFISHNET Malawi is a not-for-profit organisation that advocates for gender equality and the economic empowerment of women in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Women play a central role across Malawi's fish value chain, from production and processing to trading. We exist to strengthen their participation, improve their incomes and amplify their voices in decisions that shape the blue economy.

What we aim to achieve
Advocate for women's economic empowerment and gender equality in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Promote women's participation in blue economy decision-making to increase their representation in leadership and governance roles.
Improve the welfare and incomes of women engaged in fisheries and aquaculture businesses.
Establish and strengthen sustainable partnerships with other institutions to improve the viability, sustainability and growth of women's enterprises.
Our approach
We connect local women-led enterprises with national and continental networks, policy makers and development partners.
We are a member of the African Women Fish Processors and Traders Network, which operates in approximately 54 countries.
As an umbrella body, we work hand-in-hand with the Malawi government and development partners.
We build the capacity of women-led cooperatives and SMEs involved in fish farming, processing and trade.
Our work supports the following SDGs.
Whether you are a development partner, an institution or a buyer, connect with AWFISHNET Malawi to support the growth of women-led fisheries enterprises.
